Dog Training FAQs—Quick Answers for Saskatoon Families

Got questions about classes, private training, or what to bring? You’re in the right place. These FAQs cover puppies through adult dogs, our positive methods, how booking and rescheduling works, and how to get the most from each session. Still unsure? Call (306) 822-4323 and we’ll point you to the best next step.

Puppy Classes & Early Training

  • After two sets of vaccinations. Before that, book In-Home Puppy Head Start so you don’t miss the early learning window. Early practice with sleep, potty routines, handling, and simple games makes class easier and prevents problem habits from taking hold.

  • Socialization, house training support, mouthing/nipping solutions, name response, loose-leash and recall foundations, calm greetings, handling for vet/groomer, and settle on a mat. Expect short, upbeat reps, clear homework, and friendly coaching each week.

  • Level 2 builds confidence and reliability: emergency recall, off-leash readiness, doorway mat routine, tricks (Sit Pretty, Back Up, Get Around, intro skateboard), tunnels/musical mats, sports sampler (agility/flyball/disc), and the 3Ds—distance, distraction, duration. Five consecutive weeks; playtime starts each class.

Private Dog Training

  • Choose private coaching for leash pulling, barking/jumping, reactivity, fear/shyness, or when you want flexible scheduling and faster progress on your priorities. We can train in-home, at our space, or out in the real world (neighbourhood/park).

  • Many families see momentum after the assessment + 1–2 follow-ups. Complex reactivity or fear cases may benefit from a 3-session package and spaced practice. We’ll recommend a plan that fits your dog and schedule.

  • Yes. We combine management (distance, routes, decompression) with training (pattern games, alternate behaviors, gradual setups). You’ll learn how to keep your dog under threshold so learning can happen.

Methods, Safety & Equipment

  • No. We’re reward-based and humane. We teach clarity with marker timing, reinforcement, and management to prevent rehearsal of unwanted behavior. Humane equipment only: flat/buckle collar or harness, 6–8 ft leash, and a long line for recall work.

  • First we lower difficulty: add distance, choose quieter spots, and do easier reps. As stress drops, appetite returns. We’ll also test higher-value food or toy play and tighten up timing so success snowballs.

  • Yes—with progressions and opt-outs. We build core strength first, keep reps short, and never force positions. Skateboard work is optional, low to the ground, and supported by safety mats.

Booking, Rescheduling & Policies

  • Use Book Now to see dates and tuition for Puppy Level 1/2, Trick Training, and Private Sessions. If you’re unsure where to start, call (306) 822-4323 and we’ll guide you.

  • With 24–48 hours’ notice, we’ll move you to the closest match or provide at-home notes and a short video recap when a make-up isn’t possible. If your dog is unwell, please stay home and email us—health comes first.

  • Dogs aren’t machines, but we do guarantee professional, humane coaching and a clear plan. Results depend on practice, environment, and health. We’ll adjust the plan as needed and support you between sessions.

Prep & What to Bring

  • Flat collar or harness, 6–8 ft leash (no retractables), treat pouch with soft rewards, and a small mat/blanket. Feed a slightly smaller meal beforehand for motivation. Arrive a few minutes early for sniff-and-settle.

  • Absolutely. We’ll assign age-appropriate roles so handling stays safe and consistent. Family involvement speeds progress and helps your dog generalize skills.
