The Methodology: Building Calm Through Consistency

Instead of using harsh corrections, the training focused entirely on teaching Rex what to do instead of reacting wildly. Here is the exact step-by-step method used:

  • Automatic Sit Instead of Jumping: We shifted Rex’s default behavior. He learned that he must automatically sit to get what he wants, rather than lunging or jumping.

  • Creating Calm Over Biting: When Rex became over-aroused and attempted to bite, the owner gently held his collar to prevent him from lunging, maintaining a calm and neutral anchor until the pup settled down.

  • Waiting for Eye Contact: Once Rex relaxed, the owner waited for him to offer eye contact—a clear sign that he was focused, regulated, and listening.

  • Positive Affirmation & Rewards: The moment eye contact was made, Rex was praised with positive affirmation. He quickly learned that sitting quietly is the ultimate key that unlocks everything he loves: food, toys, and affection.

The Outcome

By repeating this consistent routine, Rex quickly connected the dots.

This once high-energy, mouthy puppy has transformed into a well-mannered companion who understands how to control his impulses.

The household is now a significantly safer, calmer, and much more enjoyable space for both the pup and the family's young child!

Private Dog Training Success Story:

Rosco, Frankie, and Rosie came to Warman Dog Training struggling with dog-to-dog aggression in the home. Tension between them was creating stress for both the dogs and their owners. Jen went to the home to help settle the dogs.

Through implementing clear rules and boundaries, establishing consistent structure and daily routines, and teaching proactive management strategies, we were able to significantly reduce conflict and improve their overall behaviour.

A key turning point was identifying and temporarily removing the instigating dog using structured crate time, allowing everyone to reset and rebuild positive interactions.

With consistency and leadership, this once high-stress household is now calm, balanced, and much more enjoyable for both the dogs and their family.
