Dog Training FAQs—Quick Answers for Saskatoon Families

Do you have questions about classes, private dog or puppy training? You’re in the right place. These FAQs cover puppies through adult dogs, our positive methods, how booking and rescheduling works, and how to get the most from each session. Still unsure? Puppy Classes & Early Training

  • After two sets of vaccinations puts your puppy at 3 months of age. Before that, book In-Home Puppy Head Start so you don’t miss the early learning window. Early practice with sleep, potty routines, handling, setting boundaries and basic puppy obedience. The ‘Sooner the Better’. Easier to training positive behaviors instead of waiting and then needing to re-train, prevents problem habits from taking hold.

  • Socialization, house training support, mouthing/nipping solutions, recalls, loose-leash walking , calm greetings, handling for vet/groomer, and settle on a mat. All classes begin with 15 minutes of supervised socialization time followed by 1 hr or instruction/practice time. Classes are upbeat and fun for both puppy and handler.

  • Level 2 builds on the basic skills learned in puppy Level 1. Using the 3D’s of Dog Training, Structure, Routine and Consistency to build a strong obedience foundation. As your puppy turns into a teenager continued training builds confidence and reliability: emergency recall, off-leash readiness, doorway mat routine, tricks. fun games, and an introduction to dog sports. Agility, Trick Training, Rally-0 etc. 5 consecutive weeks; once a week.

Private Dog Training

  • Choose private coaching for leash pulling, barking/jumping, reactivity, fear/shyness, or when you want flexible scheduling and faster progress on your priorities. Socialization is included in on-site training. We can train in-home, at our space, or out in the real world (neighbourhood/park).

  • Many families see momentum after the assessment + 1–2 follow-ups. Complex reactivity or fear cases may benefit from a 4-session package and spaced practice. We’ll recommend a plan that fits your dog and schedule.

  • Yes. Leash reactivity is the most common problem handlers have with their dogs. Dogs don’t understand the leash, and if the leash is being held tight, the dog will learn to fight the leash and lunge at distractions. We teach loose-leash, gentle touch walking. behaviors, gradual setups). You’ll learn how to keep your dog under threshold so learning can happen.

Methods, Safety & Equipment

  • No. We’re reward-based and humane. We teach with positive reinforcement, and management to prevent rehearsal of unwanted behavior. Humane equipment only: flat/buckle collar and a 6 ft. leash for walking.

  • First we lower difficulty: add distance, choose quieter spots, and do easier reps. As stress drops, appetite returns. We’ll also test higher-value food or toy play and tighten up timing so success snowballs.

  • Jen can help with dogs chasing children, jumping up, and pulling at their clothing. Jen is a certified youth worker and loves to work with the children in the family to help them learn to play safely with their dog and how to discourage negative behaviors.

  • Book anytime for classes. Jen will respond with an email confirmation. Book a private training request, and Jen will work with you to get started training as soon as possible. possible.

  • Jen will work with you to set up a training plan complete with videos and homework. Practicing the skills introduced yields positive results. Daily practice and 24/7 follow-through is required to get maximum benefit from the training. Results depend on practice, environment, and health. We’ll adjust the plan as needed and support you between sessions.

Prep & What to Bring

  • A hungry, energetic dog. A Flat collar. lots of high-value human-grade food rewards. A positive attitude, ready to have fun and learn with your puppy. Feed a slightly smaller meal beforehand for motivation.

  • Absolutely. Children are welcome to attend, and when possible, Jen will involve them in the class. Jen will also let the kids handle her little dogs during class time. During instruction time the children must be able wait quietly, similar to school classroom.

  • At this time: etransfer or cash only.

Service Areas & Logistics

  • We serve Saskatoon, Warman, and Martensville, with in-home options across the Saskatoon region (travel fees may apply outside core areas). We train at our indoor space. Weather permitting, some portions of class may be outdoors. Summer months - the pool is an option.

  • We are located at North, 406 Railway St, Warman, SK S0K 4S0. Standardized hours for web consistency: Mon–Fri 9 a.m.–9 p.m.; Sat 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; Sun 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
