Puppy Classes & Head Start Training

After two sets of vaccinations puts your puppy at 3 months of age. Before that, book In-Home Puppy Head Start so you don’t miss the early learning window. Early practice with sleep, potty routines, handling, setting boundaries and basic puppy obedience. The ‘Sooner the Better’. Easier to training positive behaviors instead of waiting and then needing to re-train, prevents problem habits from taking hold.

It’s a training method based on the idea that behaviors that are rewarded most often (Pavlov’s theory} is the behavior that is more likely to be repeated. Instead of sing fear based ‘alpha corrections’ you use things your puppy likes, treats, toys, praise and play. ‘Positive does NOT equal Permissive’ The dog learns what it can expect with clear, consistent rules and boundaries that are reward when the dog offers the correct behavior.

Socialization, house training support, mouthing/nipping solutions, recalls, loose-leash walking , calm greetings, handling for vet/groomer, and settle on a mat. All classes begin with 15 minutes of supervised socialization time followed by 1 hr or instruction/practice time. Classes are upbeat and fun for both puppy and handler.

Level 2 builds on the basic skills learned in puppy Level 1. Using the 3D’s of Dog Training, Structure, Routine and Consistency to build a strong obedience foundation. As your puppy turns into a teenager continued training builds confidence and reliability: emergency recall, off-leash readiness, doorway mat routine, tricks. fun games, and an introduction to dog sports. Agility, Trick Training, Rally-0 etc. 5 consecutive weeks; once a week.

All puppies nip or bite. All puppies have used their mouths to play with their littermates. They jump on the other puppies and often grab them by the scruff. This is normal puppy behavior. They will adjust their bite based on the other puppy's tolerance for playful biting. When they join the human world, they continue with this learned behavior because it worked, and the other puppies were happy to respond in kind with nipping and jumping.
Those little teeth are sharp!!! Don't yelp (like a puppy). Don't quickly move your hand away (a game of chase the hand. FUN!)
WHAT TO DO?? Gently hold the puppy away from you and place your hand in the side of his collar so he can't get you. Remain CALM!!!!! Wait!!!! Remain Calm! Count 1, 2, 3 seconds of calm, then quietly say,: Yes, Good..." and calmly pet. See video below

Choose private coaching for leash pulling, barking/jumping, reactivity, fear/shyness, or when you want flexible scheduling and faster progress on your priorities. Socialization is included in on-site training. We can train in-home, at our space, or out in the real world (neighbourhood/park).

Many families see momentum after the assessment + 1–2 follow-ups. Complex reactivity or fear cases may benefit from a 4-session package and spaced practice. We’ll recommend a plan that fits your dog and schedule.

Yes. Leash reactivity is the most common problem handlers have with their dogs. Dogs don’t understand the leash, and if the leash is being held tight, the dog will learn to fight the leash and lunge at distractions. We teach loose-leash, gentle touch walking. behaviors, gradual setups). You’ll learn how to keep your dog under threshold so learning can happen.

‘The Sooner the Better’ Enroll your 3-4 month old puppy in a group puppy class that offers off-leash socialization and positive training methods. ‘Socialization is Key’ Your Dog’s first 5 months set the tone for his ability to interact with other dogs and be able to focus in a multiple dog environment. Private training is an option but group socialization puppy classes is always the best way to start training your puppy.

No. We’re reward-based and humane. We teach with positive reinforcement, and management to prevent rehearsal of unwanted behavior. Humane equipment only: flat/buckle collar and a 6 ft. leash for walking.

First we lower difficulty: add distance, choose quieter spots, and do easier reps. As stress drops, appetite returns. We’ll also test higher-value food or toy play and tighten up timing so success snowballs.

Jen can help with dogs chasing children, jumping up, and pulling at their clothing. Jen is a certified youth worker and loves to work with the children in the family to help them learn to play safely with their dog and how to discourage negative behaviors.

Book anytime for classes. Jen will respond with an email confirmation. Book a private training request, and Jen will work with you to get started training as soon as possible.

Jen will work with you to set up a training plan complete with videos and homework. Practicing the skills introduced yields positive results. Daily practice and 24/7 follow-through is required to get maximum benefit from the training. Results depend on practice, environment, and health. We’ll adjust the plan as needed and support you between sessions.

How to Prepare & what To Bring To Class?

A common FAQ is what to bring and how to book. Click on the Book Now button to register. Bring a hungry, energetic dog; a flat collar; lots of high-value human-grade food rewards; and a positive attitude, ready to have fun and learn with your puppy. Do not feed your puppy before class.

Absolutely. Children are welcome to attend, and when possible, Jen will involve them in the class. Jen will also let the kids handle her little dogs during class time. During instruction time the children must be able wait quietly, similar to school classroom.

Warman Dog Training offers a clean, indoor facility. During good weather, we also offer outdoor training to help your dog learn to focus around real-world distractions. Plus, your dog will get a chance to try supervised swimming in our outdoor pool!

Warman Dog Training serves Saskatoon, Warman, Martensville, and surrounding areas. We are located just 10 minutes north of Saskatoon. We also offer in-home training or training at a location of your choice.
Classes are held at our indoor facility. Weather permitting, some portions of class may be held outdoors, and our pool is available as an option during the summer months!

Early training is essential—not only does it help your puppy learn good manners, it also makes life easier for everyone in your family. The sooner you begin, the better prepared you and your puppy will be for a happy life together.
Puppy Training Options:
Option 1:
Group Puppy Socialization, Manners, & Obedience Classes at Warman Dog Training
Puppy classes are held once a week for five weeks at the Warman Dog Training location. To attend, your puppy must have completed at least two sets of vaccinations. Group classes cover all the basics of puppy training and provide an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about raising your puppy. The full set of classes is available for $185.
Option 2:
In-Home Puppy Head-start Training
In-home Puppy Head-start puppy training is available. This option involves working directly with your family and your new puppy in your home environment. The focus is on establishing training routines, addressing puppy behavior, and teaching calmness. It is designed to help both you and your puppy learn the rules and boundaries that work best for your household. $100.
Option 3:
Combination Training
A comprehensive option combines in-home Puppy Head-start training followed by a full set of puppy classes. This approach ensures your puppy receives both individualized instruction at home and the benefits of socialization and structured learning in a group setting. The total cost for this combined package is $250
